Seventh Annual
Illumination: a
magical evening of music and lantern-making under the stars
Sat., Aug. 18th, 2007 at Tongore Park in Marbletown (off Rt. 209)
6:30pm with this year's second seating at 8:30pm (music goes until
10pm)
Fireflies
and fans of music alike will be on hand for our 7th annual ILLUMINATION. This
event is a family and community tradition offering children from
ages three to 93 the opportunity to express their artistic
side by making beautiful lanterns to share with everyone. The members
of Marbletown Arts Association provide the lantern structures that
are decorated on site by participants with festive ribbons, feathers,
sequins and paint that we'll have on hand. We then hang them at
dusk to be admired by all while the sun is setting. This
event, combined with community fellowship, live music, and complete
with an old-fashioned ice cream truck makes for a truly magical
summer evening experience.
This year, with a special grant from the Dutchess County Arts
Council, we will have a musical second seating for adults
(at 8:30 PM) ,
featuring the talents of singer/songwriter Machan. Machan softly
weaves her inviting vocal around warm Brazilian rhythms and adult
pop melodies, spiced with hints of jazz and world music. This year
Machan releases her new CD, "Motion of Love", which showcases
the many facets of her exotic adult-pop-meets-jazz sound. Everyone
is urged to bring a picnic, a bottle of wine and enjoy her music
under the stars while the lanterns are lit.
Our first seating at 6:30 pm will provide children of all ages
with some exciting entertainment (as they are making their lanterns)
by the band POOK, the Percussion Orchestra of Kingston. The ensemble
plays original compositions and arrangements of traditional rhythms
from around the world with a special focus on music of the African
Diaspora. They will be joined by their collaborators from Energy,
Junior Energy and the Energizers, three award-winning dance ensembles
featuring performers ages 5-19.
Tickets are available at the event. Admission is $
8 per adult, children free. All funds go to support the arts
in Marbletown. For more information call Barbara at 845-626-3700.
