My work explores the mystery and complexity found in the forest interior; the interplay of patterns of growth, fluctuating light, and the ambiguity of negative and positive spaces.

Bio:
Ms. McCarthy began her art studies at SUNY New Paltz and completed her B.S. in Art Education at University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1975. Following a year of travel, including a semester in Finland studying at an international folk school, she returned to the Hudson Valley area and has remained a resident since that time.
Continuing her studies, Ms. McCarthy took classes in drawing and painting with Nicholas Buhalis at the Woodstock and Kingston Schools of Art. These years also included raising two daughters and creating a home business of handwoven custom clothing. Trips to Greece and Italy inspired further growth in her art. In addition to her life in art, she has studied and worked in both horticulture and floral design, having her own landscape business for many years - Morning Glory Gardens.
In the last two years, she has completed her M.S. in Art Education, with a concentration in painting, at The College of St. Rose in Albany, N.Y.
